Types of Hearing Instruments

Lyric hearing instrument The Lyric hearing instrument is placed deep inside the ear canal, near the eardrum, and uses the ear’s anatomy to deliver natural sound quality. It is the only 24/7, 100% invisible hearing device. No surgery or anesthesia is required. Find out more here.
Receiver-In-The-Ear (RITE) The Receiver-In-The-Ear (RITE), also called “Open Fit,” style is the latest innovation in hearing instruments. Designed specifically for those with mid-to-high frequency hearing loss, these instruments combine excellent cosmetic appeal and high-definition function.
In-The-Ear (ITE) A custom In-The-Ear (ITE) hearing instrument fills the outer portion of the ear and is appropriate for mild to moderately severe hearing losses. Optional features can include directional microphones, multiple listening programs, and telecoils.
In-The-Canal (ITC) The In-The-Canal (ITC) style hearing instrument is a smaller model ITE, and is appropriate for mild to moderate hearing losses.
Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC) The Completely-In-The-Canal (CIC) hearing instrument is smallest. The appropriateness of this style is limited based on the degree of hearing loss, combined with manual dexterity.
Behind-The-Ear (BTE) Behind-The-Ear (BTE) instruments are appropriate for hearing losses from mild to profound. Directional microphones, multiple listening programs and telecoils for telephone compatibility are available. This style is best suited for pediatric patients and those with severeto- profound hearing loss. An earmold is required for this style.
